Dear Auntie Brittani- Thank you for helping my mom get me out- and for helping her the whole time i was in there with all the questions she had and for being there to meet me as soon as i arrived. I can't believe how blessed I am to have such a special auntie who has given my mommy so much support. She tells me that not only since i've been around but her entire life you have given her strength and support to be the person she has become. We wish we lived closer or at least see you more often but thank goodness for FaceTime. I hope you had such a great birthday and sorry this post is a bit late, but my mom said that you like to extend your birthday out as much as you can!! Jason loves his little girl!!!! It is so cute to see them together and he takes such great care of her when I have school work or clinicals! It is so sad to be away from her but I know she is in the best hands so it makes it a little better/easier. He sends me so many pics too I love it!! Like the many faces of hazel pic! We are so blessed with our happy baby girl! She slept almost 8 hours the other night and I was so worried something was wrong- but she seems great- oh and how and when should I be doing a sleeping schedule?! I just bought baby wise and am starting to read it- any other suggestions for books or sleeping schedules?!

Happy one month birthday to my little Hazel! here are a few pics we took with our Sticky Bellies!! thanks Ash! what hazel has been up to this month: she is adjusting to Utah beautifully although i know she really wishes we could've stayed in warm CA forever and with grandma to take care of us :) she smiles and when she is falling asleep she will smile and do this little laugh. she likes to wait until her diaper is being changed to GO... she is not a huge fan of baths, yet! She makes lots of silly noises, including burping and loud toots, she is a good eater, she will fall asleep super quick lying on her tummy on anyones chest, she likes to be sung to, she doesn't LOVE her carseat, yet.. she LOVES to be in the ergo or in the moby wrap and she is always just as cute as ever. we love her SO much. She is such a blessing in our lives! some nicknames we call her: Hazey-pop, princess, hazey-poo, hazey-pazey..

Auntie Erin meets Hazel

Auntie Erin came to meet Hazel this weekend and it was so much fun!! Jason and Hazel picked her up from the airport in Friday morning while I was busy with school stuff- when she got here we wasted no time.. She ventured with me to target and then to yummy cafe rio! We came home and did her hair and watched lots of tv oh and she snuggled Hazel a lot! Saturday she took me for pedicures and to get our eyebrows done! Thanks!!! We watched the 9ers win!!! And then That night for dinner we had Costa Vida! Which one did she like better- that was the test!? We watched movies and played with Hazel and then on Sunday she watched my little muffin while I got some sleep and then we were able to go to church without hazel - auntie Erin to the rescue!! But let me tell you- there were enough crying babies to make my milk let down for the whole day! Haha- I thought that was a myth but no way! Sunday was relaxing and and we just hung out and even gave Hazey a biffy bath! Early Monday morning we dropped Erin off at the airport.. We were so sad to see her leave!!! Thank you Erin for everything for coming to meet your newest niece and loving her so much and holding her and kissing her and playing with her!! And thank you for helping me and for dealing with my moods and my pain- thank you for being such an amazing sissy and auntie! We love you and we will see you in feb!

Back to Utah back to school

We got back to Utah last night and were welcomed by a beautifully decorated front door!! Thank you Young family and Nielsen family!!!! It made coming back much more fun!!! Today is my first day back to school and so far so good- it is my last semester of nursing school!! I am also feeling very ambitious and want to try to go to the gym today! Oh and Hazel did amazing on her first plane ride!!

I am so proud of my little miss Hazel! She had her two week well baby check up today and weighed 8 lbs 3 oz! She was born at 7 lbs 5 oz and dropped to 6 lbs 12 oz and they like babies to at least be back at their birth weight.. And of course for the past two weeks I've been worried at whether or not she was getting enough milk & growing right... You know the usual moms worries or I hope they are normal worries!!! I'm glad my milk is working so far and my girl is doing so great

2011 Recap

From what i can remember here is our 2011 RECAP:
January- I started my 2nd semester of nursing school- My best friend HEATHER came out to UTAH for a visit!!
February- spent valentines day with my amazing valentine!
March- got hired at UVRMC and worked as a CNA for a few minutes... the month we tried to get pregnant :)
April- we found out we were EXPECTING! I took a trip to Arizona to visit my cute nieces and sissy!
may- had our 1st doctors apt! started my 3rd semester of nursing school and jason studied and studied for the DAT
June- Jason took the DAT (dental admissions test) and did exceptionally well and applied to a few dental schools! Drove to Napa for a DR apt.
July- found out we were having a GIRL!! took a trip to Arizona to visit my sister- went to 4H camp for my 13th and last year for a while
August-Jason turned 25! took a trip to CA for a dr. apt. Celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary. went on the Napa Valley Wine train- Jason started his last semester of college and i started my 4th semester of nursing school. I took my NCLEX-PN and became a Licensed Practical Nurse.
September- I turned 23! Jason got an interview at Creighton Dental school. Trip home for dr. apt.
October- Jason went and interviewed at Creighton. I took a trip home over halloween for a dr. apt.
November- Thanksgiving in CA!
December-Jason got accepted to CREIGHTON dental school. He graduated from BYU with his Bachelors in Biology. We put a down payment on a town home in Omaha Nebraska. celebrated a SPECIAL birth-day and welcomed our sweet baby girl delivered by her grandpa!!! That was our year highlight!!!! We have been SO blessed this year and couldn't have asked for a more exciting 2011- especially december of 2011! we are SO excited to welcome 2012 for an exciting new chapter in our lives!!
things we are looking forward to in 2012: having a sweet girl to take care of and watch grow up, graduating nursing school in May (passing my NCLEX-RN, Starting Dental school in the fall!!

This month has been such a whirlwind! I can't believe the month and the year is over today! Christmas was definitely different this year my Hazel was still all I could think about! It never really felt quite like Christmas anyways here are some cute pics and still to come my 2011 recap!!

The Birth Story

Thursday Dec 16th was my last doctors apt and my cervix was completely closed.. my sister arrived on saturday the 18th and we started doing all kinds of crazy things to get my labor started.. jalapenos, hula-hooping, crab walking, hiking, up and down the stairs, scrubbing the floor..i had pretty regular contractions that saturday night but nothing real- she then checked me on monday morning and i was dilated to a 2.5. she strippped my membranes on monday and that started some bad contractions that evening but again nothing regular. so at that point i was over trying to do anything i could- i mean nothing i had tried had worked besides i think people just tell others the very last thing they did before they went into labor and blame it on that! so It all REALLY started on wednesday night december 21st. My mom and I went to go hang out with my sister at her house. I was sitting on her living room floor doing some butterfly stretches when all of a suddden I felt like i wet my pants.. i had not wet my pants the entire pregnancy so i thought this was super weird.. so i ran to the bathroom and kinda was freaking out.. uhhhh britt, ash, someone come here... so they both ran in the bathroom and there was this green fluid all over my underwear... "what is it?!" both britt and ash started screaming and jumping and very excited and then told me it was my water with thin meconium in it. This was at 9:25 PM- we needed to go to the hospital right then. I called Jason (he was at my house with my dad) and told him my water broke and he needed to get my hospital bag and go with my dad and meet us at the hospital. On our drive down to Kaiser in Vallejo, ash called down and they were super busy(but they saved me a room)! we got there and i got all hooked up to the monitors and then they needed to start my IV.. but i was very swollen. It was AWFUL- 3 different people had to try and finally on the 4th try they got an IV in.
my battle wounds
They started antibiotics and let me chose whether i wanted to try to let contractions start on their own or start pitocin right away. we decided to try to let contractions start and maybe get some sleep but start pitocin in the morning. i slept on and off from 12-430 and no contractions were starting so we started pitocin at 5 am. i didn't feel any regular contractions until about 6 am. slowly they started to get more and more painful. i tried and tried to breath through them but by about 7 there was no way and i was in tears through everyone. i called the nurse and she told me to try to wait longer. so i called my dad- he came in and told me there is no point in waiting if i wanted an epidural. so he checked and i was still 2.5 cm dilated but called to get the anesthesiologist. they were on shift change but as soon as they could they would come give me and epidural. in the mean time the nurse gave me some IV fentanyl but right before i got up one last time to go to the bathroom- the fentanyl helped some but made me feel so loopy and out of it. Finally by about 8 am they started to get ready for my epidural- everyone had to leave the room but I had this wonderful nurse who held my hand and talked me through it all. The anesthesiologist was amazing. I did not feel a thing and it she got it in right away. I was expecting this immediate relief from the pain of contractions but then she said she hadn't given me the loading dose yet.... she then gave me the dose but told me it would take about 5 contractions for me to really feel relief. those were the longest 5 contractions ever. finally i was feeling great by about 8:30 and then they placed my catheter and checked me again and i was at a 4. everyone came back in and decided that my dad would head back to work and my sister would go to her apt she had. they left and i was able to fall asleep. Ashley arrived at the hospital at about 9:45 and saw that baby girl was having some decels. I was waking up at this point and she went to find a nurse to check me. the nurse came in and said "well (long pause) you are 100% effaced and about a 8, no a 9. yep a 9." that had happened a lot quicker than anyone had expected. ashley quickly called my dad and sister to get back asap. They hurried and got back to the hospital by about 10:45. by this time i was complete and just waiting. i started slowly pushing about 11:15 then about 11:30 i really started pushing- while i was pushing her heart rate kept dropping- everyone looked worried but whenever i would ask everyone would tell me nothing was wrong (until after when my dad admitted that he was a little nervous) i think about 11:45 my dad had to use the vacuum. he vacuumed her a couple of times and then she was born at 11:57! They had previously warned me that since there was meconium in my water they may have to take her right away if she didn't start crying so they could prevent her from swallowing meconium- well my little girl started squealing right away . They immediately placed her on my chest skin to skin. It was the most amazing experience to have my sweet baby Hazel right there with me on the outside they dried her off and put blankets over us all while she kept pooping so they continued to clean her up while Jason and I enjoyed and cried and cried.. That moment didn't seem to last long enough. I delivered the placenta and got a few stitches. I didn't tear in the front or back but to the side(?) i kept asking what degree of a tear but apparently it is no degree when you tear like that(? i'm still confused about it all haha) and then my umbilical cord was crazy weird. check out THIS post about it- SO crazy! the body is truly AMAZING. Then my sisters helped her latch for a little and then I just got to snuggle and kiss her they did her assessment all while she stayed right on my chest. An hour or two later Ashley was able to give her her first bath and did her footprints! They then gave her vitamin k hep b and aquamephyton eye drops and then she got passed around. Then I was moved to a post partum room about 3. We were discharged the next morning about 11 am. Hazel is now a week old and we are adjusting as well as we can. As much as my breasts have been so sore it is such a fun bonding time to be able to be breast feeding. We have our first pediatrician appointment next thursday and then head back home a few days after that. It is so much fun to see Jason with Hazel. He watches her like a hawk. he always wants to hold her and always wants to make sure he watches everyone who is holding her. It is so sweet.

38 weeks

I will be 39 weeks tomorrow so i better post my 38 week picture! lets see- this week i flew on an airplane, made it back to california safely, live in and love my slippers, clothes are getting tighter by the minute, may have found a few more stretch marks, got to hear babys heartbeat, fit in lots of clients before she arrives, got to go to lunch with some great friends, made christmas treats, had bad heartburn, had over/under active bowels, eaten many many sandwiches, don't enjoy wearing ANY jewelry (it's irritating) still have an innie belly button that my niece call's 'hazel's belly button' ordered my stroller and carseat (finally, right!?) tomorrow is another big dr. apt. cant wait to see if there has been ANY progress?! oh and i had a few 'fun' comments this week: "i like your waddle" "auntie devyn, your belly keeps getting BIGGER" (thanks ethan- i realize i am not getting any SMaller!)

seriously- single digit days until my due date 9 to be exact. I know you are all probably sick of these posts but ill try to make them more exciting and post more pictures. lets see this week my feet have been more swollen than ever, i have had more contractions than ever (actually hurting ones- but no regular ones yet!) been more exhausted than ever, clumsier than ever (i almost fell down the stairs yesterday) and i still have so much to do before my little sweetie gets here!! Today- i will do a few clients go to lunch with a friend and then maybe finish some christmas shopping! I better get all that done while i can- oh and i need to wrap and send off a couple packages! AND i got my assigned preceptorship for my last semester of nursing school. I have been assigned to Provo Canyon School day shifts -It is a school for troubled youth ages 12-17. I am actually really excited to be able to work with these teens and be a real nurse!!

Well besides my last minute Christmas shopping.. I had to pick up a few more things to get my hospital bag packed- 12 days- but like anyone is counting right?? Oh and my doctors appointment yesterday went okay- my bp is a bit high but all labs are normal- and then they did a non-stress test, she is looking Great but they said that my placenta is looking 'old' so for a few reasons my doc said he didn't think I'll make it to my actual due date thanks doc! But now you're getting my hopes up- and when I'm a week late I'll be calling you ;)

Sweet Message

Last night my visiting teachers came to visit me before i left for the rest of the month. They are two of the sweetest girls and gave me a cute baby gift and a card with a quote that read, "Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me; and whosoever receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me." Mark 9:36-37 "What a wonderful blessing we have to receive sons and daughters of God into our home." Neil L. Anderson 2011 general conference. This card made me beam with joy. I cannot wait to welcome a child of God into my home and call her my own. I am about to embark on an amazing journey of motherhood- who everyone tells me is more amazing than words can explain. Thank you visiting teachers for a sweet message of children last night. and since i just finished all my finals for the semester i am off to the airport to make it back to California to wait for the arrival of my sweet little Hazey. Wait- you will LOVE this article my boss told me about it and told me to be careful when I fly tonight

37 weeks, 21 days left. I can't tell you how many prayers i need right now. I know its not too common for first time mom's to go into labor super early- but it is SO critical that she stays in there until next friday when i make it back to CA and it has been a definite stress... so stay in there little Hazel!! here are a couple pictures.. yes Erin did request my 37 week picture to be in my FAVORITE feety pajamas. they are the best- i bought larges so my belly would fit in them!

Tuesday night i walked off the plane to THIS:

It definitely started my thanksgiving trip great!! Wednesday I had a dr. apt!! and managed to get some clients in :) Thursday- the day of Thanks was absolutely wonderful. My sweet FIL woke up early to take me to Old Navy at 9 am to get started on some christmas shopping! While Jason played football with some friends we shopped and got some pretty sweet deals all while it wasn't too crowded! We then were able to go to a delicious thanksgiving dinner first at the Wagners and then we were off to the Picketts dinner a couple hours later. (it was SO much GREAT food!!) Traditionally at the Wagner's, after we eat we all go in the living room and go around and say what we are thankful for. It seems like the older I get, the more meaningful this event actually is- because the more i realize how thankful i am for the blessings in my life. (don't get me wrong, i have always been thankful, but as I have grown up it brings a whole new perspective) This year I have so much to be thankful for- my sweet husband, my growing precious baby, my amazing family both immediate and extended, the blessings of Forever Families, and a little brother for selflessly giving up two years of his life so he can preach and teach the good word of the Lord. Those are just to name a few- and Jason's little speech was so sweet, i think thats when i lost it.... He is such an amazing man. He is going to be the best dad to our cute little Hazel. Thursday night is when it all began- the CHAOS- we started at wal-mart at 10 pm- then to target at 12- then kohl's at 2ish- then a quick trip to jack-in-the-box- then off the the outlets and the mall, all to wrap it up and get home around 5ish... i was TIRED on friday. Oh and on friday afternoon we were able to go tour the labor & delivery floor at the hospital so i could see where this is all going to happen!! It was SO exciting!

Saturday was the perfect day: My wonderful sisters and mom threw me a baby shower to remember (tea party themed!) The decorations, food, and company were all too perfect for words. Hazel is VERY loved.

Later saturday evening Hazel had the opportunity to attend her very first SHARKS hockey game!
and we finished up our trip and came back to Utah early monday morning. I am returning Dec.8th... to stay for a whole month to have my baby hazel. time sure does fly. Happy Thanksgiving month to all!

36 weeks!

How far along? 36 weeks and 2 days
Weight gain/loss: Gain.
Maternity clothes? They are so comfy... but even those are starting to get pretty snug...
Stretch marks? still sleep good. and nap as often as i can! usually am only up once to pee..
Best moment this week? an AMAZING tea party baby shower!! thank you for such a PERFECT DAY! oh and Hazel attended her first Sharks hockey game.. and we got to hear her heartbeat..
Food cravings: onions.
Gender: little girl!
Labor signs? No signs of labor! some warm up contractions here and there... she has not dropped and im not dilated yet so that is a good sign. i am keeping her cooking until after dec 16!
Belly button in or out? In.
What I miss? laying/sleeping on my stomach.
What I am looking forward to? finals being over with next week, Ashley arriving in Utah and flying back with me next week!!
Weekly wisdom: I need to rest and relax more.... dr. orders no gym and take work very easy.. i need to make it back to CA!
Milestones: keeping her in there this far!!! It's amazing to me how much i have grown in the past eh, 5 or 6 weeks.. pictures are seriously getting harder to look at!

Thankful

Today I am thankful for many things but mostly my husband. He is there for me through everything- his wife is crazy but he somehow stays sane and patient through it all. I love you Jason!! Here is last night on our plane ride home.. What a hottie ;)

Today is November 22, i am due december 22. How weird. It feels like forever away but i have a feeling it is going to creep up on me- well maybe it will feel like forever considering i am getting bigger and bigger by the day, it's getting harder to breath, everytime i put shoes on/bend over/put my compression socks on i seem to burp up, eh well my heartburn isn't getting better and the maternity clothes i have worn throughout my entire preg seem to be shrinking. Jason tells me that they did shrink in the dryer... he is so sweet. and the water seems to be retaining anywhere it can be....but i still love it. because i love my baby girl and i can't wait to meet her in 30 days, hopefully no earlier than 25 but no more than 37.... so anywhere from dec 16th-dec 27th...... id like her to arrive on dec 17th or 18th. if only it were that simple ;) obviously i will take her anyday she decides to come! I am thankful for my baby Hazel and the opportunity I have to be carrying her and to be her mom. I am thankful for a smooth pregnancy and for the best support system ever. (warning you now Dr. dad- i've gained ginormous amounts these past 4 weeks.. just a heads up..oh and it's just because hazel wanted lots of ice cream to grow healthy and strong.)

I debate this being my last picture... but i have a big shower on Saturday so i am sure there will be more pictures of my ever growing baby cooking self. I can't wait to go home on tuesday for thanksgiving! DR apt on wed and lots of great food and family on thursday. I have so much to be thankful for. I am going to start doing some Thankful posts!! Oh yea and we went and saw Breaking Dawn at midnight on thursday night/friday morning- it was EXHAUSTING but SO much fun!!!!

pine sol part 2

Have you ever read the back of a bottle of Pine Sol... did you know HOW many things you can use it for?? "General Cleaning, wood floors, and similar surfaces...... Toilet bowls, Laundry, General Disinfectant..." and then it proceeds to tell you how to use it in each one. It amazes me how multi-purpose it is, and i better try it on ALL of them before baby comes because i don't think ill LOVE it like i do.. well i hope i don't. I often get that question, "did you like it before you were pregnant?" or "do you think you will like it after?" I never needed it like i do now, so i am pretty sure i won't when i'm not. Last night at work i decided to clean some stuff so i could smell it, and every student that walked in the room asked where i was because they could smell the pine sol. oh how fun. except for when one student decided to tell me it reminds her of a porta-potty...nice.

*Note about baby milestones: thanks babycenter: If you've been nervous about preterm labor, you'll be happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies. YAY. even though i have not been nervous about preterm labor it is comforting knowing that she WOULD do great. but keep cooking little one!!

yes i did darken my hair and yes it did go a bit darker than planned, but i am loving it still.

I know the never ending debatable topic. When is it okay to start listening to Christmas music?! For me personally, i will secretly listen to it at random times all throughout the year, because it ALWAYS puts me in a good mood- but regularly, after Halloween is when I start to listen to it. don't get me wrong, if there was Thanksgiving music, i would listen to that, but if i had to wait until the day after Thanksgiving, then what i could ONLY listen until Christmas day? that's only a MONTH- but whatever your opinion is on listening to Christmas music you don't need to post it all over facebook- we get it, you don't like it, but everytime someone is playing rap (for example) you don't cry about that do you- so why do people get SO bothered that a store is already playing Christmas music- I'm just saying let people have their holiday cheer and listen to their happy feel good christmas music. thats all. wait, is there Thanksgiving music??

some other things for me to remember: love my compression socks- really help with standing on my feet all day and NO swelling- otherwise swelling is beginning. My ring still fits at the beginning of the day- but then just gets uncomfortable so i bought a fakey- simple diamond band. i have definitely been cooking and cleaning a lot- trying to organize the house but it seems like nothing fits anywhere... ITCHING to get my sewing machine out and sew some stuff.. (i need help fixing the bobbin underneath if anyone is good with sewing machines..) want to make a wreath for my front door- need to wash Hazel's clothes, trying to study but little motivation. now i need to go make some pumpkin chocolate chip cookies!! oh and i need to finish my registry... im still having such a hard time with a carseat.. why oh why?! ha!

i CANNOT decide what bedding i like- and it has been so hard to find any since we have a 'mini' crib for our room- bedding is much more sparse to come by. It is supposedly the same size as a pack n play and there are some sites specifically for mini crib bedding but expensive and still limited.. right now i LOVE this one- how would it look with a cherry crib?? Also for anyone who is interested check out this site and let me know if you have any favorites :)

Weekly wisdom: take naps when i can, and be nicer to my sweet husband who helps me ALL the time but especially during the nights when i get up to pee or just roll over and need to move my body pillow with me he always helps me so i don't pull the covers completely off and he lets me throw the covers on and off multiple times a night, even last night after a few hours with no covers he said i felt cold and covered me back up and snuggled with me and he doesn't even remember doing this all through the night :)

this is my most asked pregnancy question, maybe for every pregnant lady out there too.. well, I really ENJOY when people touch my belly but the whole how are you feeling thing.. i never know quite how to answer. It's almost like.... do they REALLY know what they are asking? HA! In the beginning I was not ever sick, mostly tired, but some days were better than others, so it was an okay question then.. but now my days are SUCH rollercoasters.. i thought i was hormonal/emotional before pregnancy...So i guess it always depends WHEN the person asked.. but most of the time it is easier to just say fine or good or growing.. those are my typical answers. Well today- I did NOT quite answer like that... a couple of my students asked how i was.. and i broke down.. i told them all my problems and how stressed i felt and didn't start to cry but started to laugh a little. How Silly was i really being? I mean are these problems SO awful- wake UP devyn- you are carrying the most precious daughter of God- YOUR child- what could possibly be BETTER and how could i possibly be MORE blessed than this time in my life. of course i am not getting the highest grades in my classes, i should know that with my study habits i NEVER will (haha) who CAREs if my house isn't spotless and why do the little things really get to me, oh yeah because my hormones take over my life right now. My problems are really so small to what they could be, but it's my world so they seem SO much bigger at the time. I am thankful for my sweet husband who puts up with this, and my mom who listens when i need to talk (and my students :)) and friends who send me texts or FB posts to know that they care. Sometimes thats all I need, but all the time I need to remember my Heavenly Father who has given me such an amazing opportunity to grow nurture this little girl, he has blessed me with the opportunity to be a mom! It helps so much when we remember to count our blessings...
So How am I doing now? I am doing great, I am happy to be carrying my sweet daughter, and can't wait to meet her. Although i better be getting some sleep or i may be extra cranky tomorrow ;) - For all those who are still reading- thanks for listening.. writing feelings down always helps me out.

Loving your unborn child.

As part of our Hypnobirthing class we are taking, we have been asked to write letters to our unborn child. our most recent class was how to love your unborn child and so tonight for FHE (family home evening) we are writing letters! Jason has also been talking to her on a regular basis even more than he was before! It is so fun to have her squirm when he is talking to her. She may be a daddy's girl.... some other things we discussed on loving your unborn child was to take weekly belly photos of when they were in your tummy and compile it into a book with letters so when she is old enough she will love looking at it and knowing that that was when She was in mommy's tummy. So i am glad i have already been taking my pictures! Singing, and talking and just playing music are other things they suggested we do as well- this class has really helped us feel more connected to her and to each other. As well as ease SO many fears of child birth i had before this class. It's pretty awesome that one of my amazing nursing instructors teaches it as well! i have the day off... that is until 4 o'clock. so here is to getting my to do list DONE (wishful thinking!)

Yes, I am blogging about my new toothbrush because it is AMAZING! for those who know me REALLY well, may know that I used to sometimes not brush twice a day probably i was lazy but also because it always has hurt my teeth... i know i brush really hard but i feel like that is how i can get them clean and i do believe i have some gum recession from it... anyways... i was more excited to brush my teeth this morning then i have ever been in my entire life! because last night was my first experience with this:

Hazel Cathleen Pickett

This is a recent purchase that I wear almost daily. H is for our Hazel. That is what we have decided to name her. We love it. and even when I do think of a name that i could possibly like, i'll run it by Jason, it's always an instant no. He says she is already our Hazel, and she is. How we chose the name? It was never on any lists we made, its not a family name, it just came to us one day and we knew from then on. Jason and I both have hazel eyes so maybe she will get those too ;). Her initals are HP just like harry potter, and we already call her our little hazelnut! and Cathleen is my best friend, my mom's name so it is a special name to us. We pray for her daily but have recently begun to pray for her as Hazel daily. Hazel- we can't wait to meet you! +/- 11 weeks! Love your anxiously awaiting mommy and daddy!

Sometimes I feel like I have been pregnant forever but most of the time I can't already believe that I am hitting my Third trimester! I can't believe how quickly it goes! I am enjoying trying to find new cute and fun pregnancy styles and i LOVE watching my belly being pulled and kicked in every direction. I have been much more emotional lately- and have been SO incredibly ITCHY. I have been doing very well on watching my sugars and eating more fruits and veggies. As many times as i have said it is hard giving up my body for my sweet baby girl, it has already been completely worth it. I love her so much and look forward to my DR. visits and getting extra sneak peaks of my squirmy!! thanks DAD! oh and i got this note from my DR today: "Devyn, Your blood count showed that you are a bit anemic. In addition to your prenatal vitamins, you should take an extra iron tablet each day. With love from your father. Michael Vincent Wagner, M.D." So yes i do have to start taking my iron tabs (which i hear don't make you feel very good...) and thanks dad for taking such great care of your granddaughter and daughter!

California trip

I am back from a very tiring trip, but i got to spend so much time with my mom and dad. Since my dad was off work and my mom was recovering they were both home all the time and we got to hang out! My mom is recovering fantastic- she is AMAZING. she was walking up and down the stairs and even went on a walk outside today. She is SUPERwoman! and my Dad is so sweet- he stays home and makes lunch and dinner and helps my mom so much. He was also a HUGE help to me this weekend. He helped me get all my supplies set up and to and from my eyelash extension training. I could NOT have done it without him. I also got to see my baby girl!!! and i passed my glucose test! It was not nearly as bad as i was expecting- especially since they forgot to stock the fridge with the yummy drinks, so i got a room temperature, fake sprite. haha. chugged it in a few minutes and then it was over! I also had the opportunity to speak at church. My topic was Charity and it was just what i needed to talk on. I got the chance to study and learn about how i can be more charitable (not even necessarily donating time or money, but just by being kind to those around us) by no 'bashing' people. I have a goal to be more charitable! And i got to spend a lot of time with Ashley- she even was kind enough to bring me a birthday lunch of Taqueria to my class i was teaching. I am so blessed to have so many great people in my life that care and love me... more on my birthday DAY to come!!!!

Thanks for the best date week ever jasy. We went on a date a day this week because we knew i would be gone for 4 days. We has so much fun, five guys on monday, roll up crepes on tuesday, wednesday we had sensuous sandwich and tonight we walked around the beautiful peaceful temple square (in hopes of a Sister Frye spotting, no luck) and then went to CPK for dinner and roamed around the Gateway before he dropped me off at the airport. 100 days.

On my little ticker it has informed me that my countdown is at 100 days! tomorrow will be in the double digits. How crazy is it to think that i only have 100 days left. That means it's almost Christmas. Wow- i better start shopping. Thankfully today I was able to get it worked out with my teachers for me to take my finals one week early so I can return to California at 38 weeks. This pregnancy has been a definite faith builder. For those who don't know the story- after much prayer we felt strongly impressed that we should at least TRY to get pregnant in the month of march (to have a christmas break baby) and If it didn't work out we could TRY again in fall for me to be done with school and have a baby. Obviously it made much more sense to wait until fall so I would be done with school- but we felt so strongly that we just needed to try for one month was all. Sure enough i got my first PPT on 4.11.11 (about 3.4 weeks along.) All I could think about was how I would most probably miscarry since every female in my family had had a miscarriage for their first pregnancy and this was too good to be true. I of course had to wait FOREVER well it felt like, to go to the DR. so we both made a trip home in early May and at 7 weeks we saw the cutest little nut and such a strong pulsating heart beat. I still had it in my head that something was not going to be okay- even though my dad informed me, after you see a heart beat, the chance of miscarriage drops to 3-5% or so. A few more weeks went by and now i KNOW why people announce so early because it has been the most constant excitement i have ever imagined (you know when you go to Disneyland and its the best day ever, well this was like Disneyland EVERYDAY) I finally announced it to the FB/blog world at 10.4 weeks. Throughout my journey- thus far- everything has been so smooth and has worked out all too perfectly, but I am constantly humbled and Thank my Heavenly Father for allowing me the opportunity to carry this little girl and letting me get through school, not sick, carrying a healthy baby, continuing to work and, well, cleaning with Pine Sol ALL THE TIME! Maybe i am Jinxing myself or speaking too soon, but my faith in my Heavenly Father has never been so strong and it is only growing as I have begun the downhill of this journey. I have 4 more trips home = 4 more DR. appointment's. This weekend (26 weeks)- last weekend in october(32 weeks)- Thanksgiving (36 weeks) and then after my finals (38 weeks) (which another faith builder- that my teachers are so willing to work with my situation) And one of my sisters so willingly offered to come to utah and fly with me back to CA when i return at 38 weeks (since jason will be here an additional week finishing his finals) I know Heavenly Father knows my needs and knows what will be best for our growing family so at the moments i get incredibly anxious and stressed at the thought of what i am doing (having a BABY before my last semester of nursing school) or how will i ever get home or something is going to happen and i won't make it home, I know i just need to relax, do all I can and put my faith and trust in him- because he has helped me thus far and I know everything will work out. For those who are still reading sorry it's so lengthy, but sometimes you need to write down it ALL (right?)

Well, school started last monday for Jason (his LAST first day of Undergrad) and school started for me on tuesday (2 more semesters). I took my LPN (licensed practical nurse) exam and passed and got hired for a seasonal flu clinic company. We are slowly getting the house rearranged to fit a baby girl and all that comes with her(which is already SO much). and in the most exciting news: JASON got an INTERVIEW at CREIGHTON DENTAL SCHOOL on october 28th!!!!!

Creighton is in Omaha Nebraska (the red words on the map) for those who didn't know. so if all goes well (fingers crossed and prayers welcomed) we will start dental school next fall!

The past two weeks have been exciting! Baby girl is tumbling all over- maybe she is running in one of those mouse wheels. thats what i think hehe whatever she is doing it makes me excited every time i feel her i like to call her 'Squirmy' yup thats her nickname. A couple of days ago i started feeling some MEGA chest pressure- a couple hours later i realized it was heartburn. I have never experienced something quite like that- i was up all night- called the advice nurse a couple times- couldn't sleep- i felt like a big guy was sitting on my chest holding a torch in it. i tried everything seriously! the next day it continued until about 4 pm. i chugged some baking soda water and took my meds and wala, gone 26 hours later... Now i will continue taking my meds every morning and night to make sure it NEVER gets that bad again! I hear the more heart burn the more hair your baby will have. Well she better come out with some nice hair ;)

3 years ago today i married the man of my dreams, my prince charming!! i am more in love with him today than i ever thought i could be and every day my love continues to grow. I can't believe how much has happened in three years (or a stand still in provo- ha) but this year is definitely going to be the biggest yet- Jason graduates in December- Baby girl debut in December- I graduate in May- we will move OUT of PROVO! and we will be starting dental school this time next year. Back in July- yes i'm a bit behind- Cory had this amazing 30th Birthday Bash!!! It was so fun and it was black tie affair- (from different Era) we had so much fun finding our outfits and getting all ready. The food was amazing, the venue was gorgeous- photobooth, dancing, candy table and tons of family and friends there!! Happy 30th very late to such a wonderful big brother!!

Weight gain/loss: Gain. 14 lbs (yes i did post how much weight i've gained...YIKES)
Maternity clothes? They are so comfy!!

Sleep? i sleep wonderfully- sometimes too good and then i don't get as much done!
Best moment this week? Jason felt her move for the first time- not strong moves yet.
Movement: oh my goodness, if i didn't know any better i would think she was a butterfly.. lately she's been getting stronger though.
Food cravings: Banana Peppers.
Gender: little girl!

What I miss? my old figure- yes already!

Thanks to my AMAZING 4H friends who threw a surprise BABY/BRIDAL shower for me (the baby portion) and Krista (the bridal portion) It was an absolute SURPRISE and it made me feel like the luckiest girl in the world. Sometimes, while being so hormonal,I haven't felt pretty or lucky, or have forgotten my own self-worth. Well, it's times like a 4h camp baby shower than I have been quickly been put back into my place remembering that this is a time of excitement and that people do care for and love me and that it is okay to have zits, extra weight, be lazy and tired and grumpy for once because i am growing a precious baby girl. I just got the CUTEST gifts! including some homemade knit booties!!! I can't believe how fun it is already to get such girly things :)
It is also great experience to see how much people care about you when you are pregnant. Thanks to my mom, my sissy's and some great friends for love, support, and all my maternity clothes! I feel so blessed to have amazing people in my life who are there for me. Most recently i was able to catch up with these two who so lovingly passed some maternity clothes along- as well as gave great cloth diapering/baby
wearing advice. It just keeps getting more exciting, and more expensive ;)

This year at 4H camp was very bittersweet. It was my 14th year and will be my last for a good 8 or 9 years.. i will miss it very much- but I LOVE my little girl and of course she is well worth it :). i always enjoy a week with no computer, cell service (okay maybe some) and not having to worry about work. I get to spend it with my very best friend heather and some incredible people!! we laugh and talk all night and wake up early or in the middle of the night because of snoring or other odd noises... we dance and we eat and don't forget the Pranks! we can be crazy and wear the weirdest outfits and never wear makeup or do our hair but thats the way it's most fun. It was baby's first time camping and dancing and boy did she love the dance!!

Yes these are some hott outfits i know!!! I got to bunk with these amazing ladies: Gabi, Kendall and Heather! We had so much fun together and will remember these times FORever!!! Thanks for making camp so memorable and eating so much with the preggo lady!

Now the realization of a girl has settled in we have been talking a lot about names! but seriously, how in the world do you come up with a name good enough to fit your precious child? Haha. We have a few in mind but it's so hard to decide on something that will be with them their entire life!!! Also, color schemes?? how do you pick that? oh, and birth plans... how do you chose who you want to be in the room?? How many people is too many?? how do you chose medicated or un-medicated?(i would love to try hypnobirthing since my sissy loved it so much, but being in the middle of nursing school-how do you prep for that?!) Could i even tolerate the pain? (ha,i'm a big wuss so i doubt it!) how do you chose what you want on your registry? seriously, this is like harder than my wedding was, Katie- can you be my baby planner too??? since you were the best wedding planner! :) no but seriously if anyone has ANY advice- please do share.

Yes it sure is!!! I was fooled, Jason was fooled, and so were the voters on the side bar! We are in az and we found a place to go get a gender ultrasound- so it was brittani Jason rich ryann cara and me of course, we went in and within two minutes she said there is no mistaken you are having a girl!!!!!! Our little girl was very very cooperative and we could see right away from every angle she was really a she! Ryann thought it was so fascinating that she could see auntie devyns baby in here belly on the big screen it was so cute! Of course there were tears- when is there not when you are preg? Ha! After we left brittani said before the lady told us it was a girl she could already tell it was too! Jason and I couldnt be more excited and yes I did purchase one thing.... A onesie that says "daddy's little princess" cant wait to meet her!!

California Trip

Last week we were able to drive home- got home a bit earlier than planned so we just got to hang out and play with all the nieces and nephews and family! it was so fun- the next three days, thur, fri, sat were BUSY client days. i feel like not a lot has changed with my body except after those long days i was really feeling it! It's weird how that works- i would do a couple 12 hour days (before i was preg) and it wouldn't even phase me, well, i am still recovering i think- im not sure if it's from standing all day or leaning over clients faces (eyelashes) or from the long drive home. I will be slowing down for my next visits- maybe ill cap at 8 hour days. Overall it was SO much fun being home!!! and now we are coming up on a big 3 day weekend!!!! ANyone have fun plans?? we are hoping to head to AZ- and fight the heat- and maybe sneak a peak at the babe (girl or boy??)

hiking the Y

I've always been a wussy when it comes to hiking, but now that I have more of an excuse I am an even bigger wuss. Jason and I attempted to hike the Y this morning but at the 3rd switch back (yes only the 3rd) i had to turn around. My legs were already hurting and I'm sure my heart rate was well above the recommended 140 and i was Panting. haha. so today we only made it to the 3rd switch back but we have a goal this week- tomorrow we make it to the 6th, wednesday we make it to the 9th and by thursday we do the whole thing. hm we will see how it goes. (yes i have made it to the top plenty of times- usually the first try- but i just get more nervous lately that i will push myself to hard)

DAT is DONE!

Congratulations to my amazing smart husband and doing so well on the DAT (dental admission test). It is out of 30 and searching through the internet i found a site with the average GPA and DAT score for admission for each school. The average overall GPA accepted to dental school is 3.5 and the average DAT score is 19.3. I get to brag a little- Jason's GPA is 3.7 and his DAT score was 22. He is SO smart. I wish I had even a smidge of the studying discipline that Jason has! He was so dedicated for the past 6 months and then when school was out he woke up at 7 every morning, went to the gym and then studied for HOURS all day long. for a good 6 weeks straight. I am so proud of him and now he had begun his application. I can't wait to see where we get in and begin a new life in the Fall of 2012! It is nice to have my husband back and he has been so great at house work and cooking and spending more time with me. Look he even bought and planted flowers for me yesterday while i was at clinicals at the hospital (i got to watch a c-section, it was amazing)!!

the real reason

The real reason i had to quit my job at the hospital:
1. SMELLS (yuck)

2. waking up before anyone ever should and not feeling well at that

3. working 12 hours is tiring

4. 2 Jobs + nursing school + clinicals + growing a little munchkin = deathly EXHAUSTION

I was having breakdowns nightly after work from pure exhaustion, it was so brutal i debated calling in sick every single day, and i would cry countless times at work especially when it involved a lot of gross stuff... so...

I am enjoying my weekends off to spend with my husband and being able to go to church. I am loving more sleep! The more the better! Who ever thought growing a baby would take all every ounce of my energy sleeping 10+ hours at night + naps in the day. I am not very good at slowing my life down, but i've definitely needed it. I do hope that my energy level picks up though...and now i know i was not meant to work as a CNA (at least for now..)

Lazy Weekend

Maybe if i post my todo list for the weekend on my blog i will feel more responsible- well lets hope for the best. Over this memorial day weekend here is my todo list:
- ~~Make my drug flash cards for my psych class~~
- Do 3 psych care plans
- Do my book report on A Child Called It (what a sad book)
- Go to the gym ~~saturday~~ and ~~monday~~ (and on a walk on sunday-too rainy!!)
- Visit teach
- ~~lashes done on monday~~
- look for a new couch/decor for the house, clean out my closet or put it back together (our wall started leaking again, carpet wet again.. ugh!)
- buy some flowers to plant in my empty flower pot
Obviously those top 3 are very important and now i am just thinking of other things to fill in the rest. haha. well so far today i have gotten breakfast in bed (thanks Babes) we went to the temple, i came home took a couple hour nap, blogged, facebook stalked.. ya ya wasted a bunch of time, so now- i will get up and get on with my day. hello 2:30.

Torn up house.

Last week, it was pouring and pouring here in Provo- and the carpet in our room began to feel soggy, until it was soaking through socks.... YUCK! We called our HOA and they came, ripped out the wall and carpet, sucked up all the water, left HUGE fans (that will probably triple our electric bill) and told us to let it dry out before they could do anything else..a couple days later they put a temporary seal on the foundation of our condo letting us know there was a crack in the foundation where water and mud were leaking through. a couple days after that they sealed the foundation for good. then the next day they came to replace the padding in our carpet and clean the carpets when they found it was STILL wet, so they ripped out the baseboards and ripped more carpet up and told us to keep the fans going for two more days... now we are at tomorrow.. when they are supposed to come clean all our carpets, and put new padding under the carpet in our room. and then they need to wait until it rains again to see if the foundation is leaking before they can put the new wall back up... which means at least next week until we get the drywall repaired.. why does it always have to be so drawn out?! well, right now all my clothes and shoes are all over the living room and we are staying in the guest bedroom.. i sure hope its a speedy rest of the process! But on a happier note- whenever we would get discouraged or frustrated with it- i just remind jason that life is 90% of how you react to it and this was just a fun little campout in the other room for a while! just an adventure that will be funny looking back- so why not laugh now! :)

Yes i got a new calling at church.. Ward newsletter and bulletin board lady.... but Since today was my last day at the hospital i have still been quite busy with life, but managed to put this together yesterday so we would have something more nice to look at at church today. It's still a bit empty.. and i would LOVE suggestions as to what should go up there :) maybe games? spotlights? vt/ht message for the month? new member spotlights?

My last summer semester.... at least for my RN schooling, and thats all i'm thinking about for now. One year left. three semesters, but i'm pretty sure summer will go by quick- because it will be so busy. At least we were able to go home from May 5th-12th. It was such a great trip. Lots of eating at amazing restaurants, shopping, doing hair/eyelashes/brazilian blowouts, seeing friends and lots of Family! being with my mom's on mothers day and talk to my Elder Wagner. He sounds so good- i'm so proud of him! He's amazing! I didn't take a single picture while i was home but did steal this one from my sissys blog

now we are back to reality catching up on cleaning and sleep. I had to make a very hard decision this past week and because of certain circumstances I put in my two weeks at the hospital. I was scheduled to work every single weekend this entire summer because i had to keep up 24 hrs a week and it was conflicting too much with school, my other job, church and time with my sweet husband that i feel it was for the best. Besides i love my job at the hair school too much to ever give that up!! its a lot cleaner, it smells better, i get to wear cuter clothes, work with people i ADORE, and do something i LOVE. I figure ill have forever to work at a hospital :). well I don't think i need to justify it other than, working 40+ hours a week and full time nursing school = no fun. I am already happier. It was a great experience though. My last day at work is may 23rd. and Jason is just 3.5 short weeks away from taking the DAT. he is so disciplined and studies very diligently EVERY SINGLE DAY! and on his last practice he did so well! His first practice he ever took was a score of 18 and this most recent was a 20. All his studying is paying off. way to go hubs. Thats all for now- life is good. GO SHARKS!

Princess and the Frog

Last night my sweet hubby watched princess and the frog with me!!! Oh how i LOVE that movie now!! And have been CRAVING her little sweet yummy things with the powdered sugar on the top, you know the things that she makes for the masquerade ball. Well, to me they look like my dad's scones, with honey butter and powder sugar. i sure hope he wants to make some for us when i come home in 3 days!!!!!

This weekend i had spring break at the hair school so i decided to take full advantage and SURPRISE Britt and the girls in arizona! The weather was b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l, so perfect. I can't wait for Utah summer so i can wear shorts and flip flops everyday! I got in Thursday night and the look on britt's face was priceless. she looked so confused and kept saying, "wait, wait, what? what? whats going on?" and then we chatted and then went to bed. Friday, i woke up quite early, since Miss RyRy didn't know i was there and was confused at who this strange person was sleeping on the couch, she tapped me and was so excited to see Auntie Devyn at 5:45 Am! I went to work with britt for half day and was able to go to this place right by her work:

then went to CPK for dinner, THANKS ROB! and we attempted to go to the Mesa Easter temple pageant, but after not finding ANY seats and pure CHAOS, we went home and rented a movie. Saturday we got up nice and early to go hiking!
we hiked and then had a breakfast from church, i then did some hair and britt and i did a bit of shopping. and now i get to go home to see my sweet husband. I am so glad i got to see my sissy and nieces and spend time with them! Thanks rich for helping me with the surprise and thanks Britt for spending so much time with me :)

i wanted to post, but there is nothing new, just the usual, work, school, school, work = busy. Jason has three weeks of school left this semester, and i have 5. I am working a bit too much but love staying busy (hair school + hospital + clients + school) Elder wagner has almost been out 11 months (on tuesday!) and we are currently hoping the Giants will step their game up. Hope everyone has a GREAT week. im off to study and enjoy my sunday off (i work the next 2 in a row!) oh yes and while i was home last weekend i got to spend a lot of time with this cutie she likes borrowing my headband

So I wanted to take a picture of the poster I made for my presentation, but they loved it so much they asked to keep it so they could hang it up on their floor! I think thats a pretty good sign, but basically it was a big heart with zebra trim and little hearts all over it and then it said 'H E A R T' and then for all the letters I put words that start with each letter. All of the words were found somewhere in the Mission, Vision and Values of Intermountain health care as well. They were very impressed that i was so familiar with the company. I won't find out for a while i'm sure but i feel very good about it. It was a lot of fun.

While at my clinical on saturday, we were passing out breakfast meds when this sweet old man tapped me on the arm and goes, "excuse me miss, but i would just like to compliment you on your hair color. Its so beautiful." Thanks sweet man! it sure made my day. Now i am going to find someone to compliment! oh and try to think of a 1-3 minute presentation for my interview at the hospital on thursday! any ideas? It can be on anything.
